Returning once again to the truck we're just about ready to leave when we spot an old .50 caliber machine gun shell.  This is a remnant from the time during WW II when this area was used as a bombing and strafing range.  The head stamp on this shell indicates that it was manufactured in 1943 at the Lake City Army Munitions Plant, Independence, Missouri.
