Niki's taking a look down into the hand dug Black Canyon Well. In the past it's been known as Dove Springs and Pigeon Springs. The current well appears on a map published in 1915 but this water source, be it well or spring, was most certainly in use in the 1870's and was undoubtedly an important stop on the wagon route through the canyon. Of course Indian use of this spring predates everything. Numerous flakes of jasper can be found nearby to attest to its prehistoric popularity.
