As the afternoon shadows lengthen, we finally arrive at Deep Springs Valley and leave the highway to work our way up to the site of White Mountain City.  This mining camp was built along the banks of Wyman Creek in 1861, but the area was also heavily used by Indians who camped, hunted, gathered pine nuts and left their petroglyphs on the abundant rocks.  If this sounds like a recipe for conflict, you're right!
