Yet another ruin.  Why did the early inhabitants build out of stone?  Well, as you can see, it was plentiful!  We suspect, too, that the constant problems with the Indians that they had displaced might be reason enough to build secure and solid structures.  Numerous deadly skirmishes between the Indians and miners did in fact take place in the 1860's.
