Shortly after leaving the Mystery Mine, our route to the Blind Mule Placer takes us across a small, elevated "island" that rises out of Pinto Basin.  We call it Shark Island because of the distinctive tall, dark rock outcrop that looks very much like the dorsal fin of a shark.
