Several deep excavations bear witness to the energetic work of rockhounds from the 1950's and '60's. This area produced wonderful chapinite, or brecciated agate nodules. What was unique about these was that the original silica gel in the agate was subject to additional movement before it hardened. This made it possible for another solution to be deposited in and around the original material. The resulting unique patterns and coloring made this material much sought after.
