Jack goes on to explain that a sample of red pigment has recently been radiocarbon dated and provided a date of A.D. 1001 to 1022.  It appears that these pictographs were Tubatulabal in origin with strong Yokut influences.  In the 1980's, a theory that the site may have served as a winter solstice sunrise observatory was put forth.
