From time to time we run across these odd tube-like structures that seem to be made of cemented sand.

Update: We've gotten numerous replies from viewers who unanimously feel that these are fulgurites, fused sand tubes caused by lightning strikes. Although ours don't seem to have the traditional slick, glass-like interiors, we're going to have to defer to the wisdom of the majority! Thanks for your emails!
