Rainbow Basin & Vicinity
Our
objective for this quick trip was an area northwest of Barstow. We
would check out the site of the old placer mining camp of Coolgardie,
then drive through the colorful Rainbow Basin fossil area, and
after camping out that night we would spend the next morning looking
for a geocache to hone our GPS skills. Except for the
Coolgardie area the roads could be traveled by just about any vehicle. We
had nice weather and a great sunset. Unexpected bonuses were
a cute tarantula and a tiny, tiny baby desert tortoise. Click
