We checked out the death certificates for San Bernardino County, contacted the rangers at Kelso, and asked around in the desert exploring community but all we could come up with is that Joe was one of the miners who worked the Rex. He might not have made much while he was alive, but his eternal resting place is priceless. Please leave this grave site and everything else at the Rex just as you find it. Take photos and gather memories. One thoughtless act can destroy this tenuous thread leading back into the past.
