C.O. Barker, whose name you can see inscribed on the top of the dam,  was one of the early cattlemen to use the open rangeland in what is now JTNP.  In the late 1800's and early 1900's, Barker began to develop a number of water sources including well known Barker Dam, which was later enlarged by Bill Keys.
