This lid once graced the top of a Folger's "Golden Gate" brand coffee tin. This brand was their most expensive blend, and the can itself would have been decorated with a distinctive picture of a ship in San Francisco Bay. In 1916 Folger's ran a newspaper advertisement touting the advantage of their new "flavor tight" tins.
