The mystery lever.

Howard Brown, the lead geologist at the Omya Mine in Lucerne Valley, recently contacted us to explain that the "mystery lever" is actually the brake lever for the windmill motor that once sat atop the tower and pumped the water. He adds that the brake lever is usually mounted near the base and has a cable running up to the motor assembly. When the brake is set it turns the wind vane out of the wind and thereby stops the sails from turning. He should know since he has a windmill in his front yard!
