Once into Pinto Basin, our hiking strategy is to pick our way along the rocky margin where the foothills join the basin.  Here, in a sandy nook, we come upon a white rhatany bush in bloom.  This shrub is partially parasitic on the roots of other plants and produces some colorful blossoms.
