Here's Niki on the landing just before she starts the climb down. Mooney Falls is 200' tall, which makes it about 30' taller than Niagara Falls. The tunnels we have just passed through were enlarged from natural caves around 1882. It was then that a prospector named D.W. Mooney fell to his death here while his party was trying to find a way to get below the falls. His body remained below for eleven months before a local Indian showed the miners the natural caves which they then enlarged and then proceeded to sink metal rods in the cliff face to aide in the descent. Mooney was then buried near the falls. Just something to think about while climbing!
