In the case of this shelter, formed by two leaning boulders , it's not the pictograph that interacts with the piercing rays of the sun to mark the beginning of spring. Rather, the pictograph seems to be a more recent addition, possibly of Chemehuevi origin, that looks on at the nearby bedrock mortar of much older construction, possibly Maringayam, which acts as the vaginal "cave" that is pierced by the arrow of the sun on the first day of spring.
